"Bass Dreams" 12 x 12 Acrylic....
I think this is just about finished...I'm not all that happy with it...It was a frustrating day of painting. Ah well.... It's tough when my skill doesn't match my ideas.... I think part of the problem is that at 12 x 12, the size of the canvas was too small.... Live and learn I guess. I'll look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow and maybe be able to think of something that will help.

Lauren, I think this is a wonderful painting. I like the composition, color scheme, and context. Choosing what size to make an artwork is not easy. I'm going through this same issue myself. Does larger mean that the subject is more important . . . does smaller mean that it's more intimate . . . does it depend on how much detail one wants to do? Below is a link to a 9"x12" painting worth looking at and pondering if it would be any better in a large format. In my opinion, no, it's exquisite:

Hi Patrice...
You are kind :)
What dictated the size was the Starkweather! LOL Are you entering the 12 x 12 show there? I had this canvas sitting here..and the prospectus...that's how I decided to paint this image, this size. doh! I've had this photo for a long time and had been playing around with different compositions, deciding that a square format suited it well so off I went! I really think I would have had a bit of an easier time with a 16 x 16 or 20 x 20. I had out my 3 haired brush too much! (and it shows) Thanks again for your kind comments...and that painting is exquisite (the link)...sigh. thanks.
Lauren
