Michigan Holly...
"Michigan Holly"
8 x 8
oil pastel and watercolor on paper
Michigan landscape in November has mostly neutral tones...umbers, dark green pine ...sienna oak leaves... Then there is flash of brilliant red orange berries and bright green moss. An oasis for color starved eyes! This is another small one inspired by my daily walks in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore park.
I'll be taking a break from the park walks since deer hunting season has begun with a literal "bang" this morning and will continue for 2 weeks. And no more wearing my reindeer hat for a while! :)

I really like this, Lauren! Pat and I went for a walk at a provincial part near us the other day and we noticed a lot of different berries too!
As for your walks right now, you could always start wearing blaze orange!
Thanks Patty... don't know what it was about this summer but the berries are absolutely incredible! As far a s the park walks...The ranger suggested I give it a few days... lots of hunters in the park... He said is slows way down after a couple of days... I can always walk on the road... not as inspirational... but still nice, as you know! :)
Yes, do be mindful of hunting season, they don't call it "buck fever" for nothin'.
Lovely Pastel, Lauren. I'm happy you got some time to work it out in color. I love the electric shocks of the lime green against the red-orange. I know those berries!
Love your stuff, hope you don't mind,I added you to my blog roll:)
Thanks Fookie... I'm home now... until Monday... When I get back up, I'll drive to the lake and walk the beach... a bit safer than in the woods! Thanks about the painting...
Shicat... Don't mind at all! Honored and thanks so much.
I love the textures in this, the combination of the subtlety of watercolor and the POW of pastels. Brava!
