Pick just one word for 2009.....

"Starlight Starbright" 3.5 x 5.5 acrylic on paper

Christine Kane (i love her music and her spirit) suggests an alternative to making a bunch of New Year's resolutions. She suggests that we choose just one word as our theme for the new year. I love the simplicity of this idea. I'm pondering my list... the hard thing will be to choose just one. Here are some of my ideas:

Joy
Mindfulness
Allow
Potential
Pure
Open
Essential
Self-care (I call "hyphen makes it one word")
Accept
Courage
Productive
Yes!
Healthy
High-road
Trust
Delight
Follow-through
Ordered
Prioritize
Share

Let me know if you decide on a one word theme to 2009...

Lauren, I'm trying to figure out a theme for 2009 also. I'm thinking of "DO!" in caps with the punctuation. However, it doesn't allow for a sane exploration of tasks and priorities. Maybe I'll hyphenate a phrase.... I like that rule!!

Happy New Year! Kim

Actually I love making resolutions and lists, but I see your point. I think my theme will be "simplify". I want to declutter a lot of areas of my life and focus my energy on what is important....

I love your Starlight Starbright; it's so crisp and fresh, it would make a beautiful Happy New Year card!

Hey Kim..."DO!" is a good one...but it seems to me that you get an awful lot done! :) Yup..the hyphenating rule let's us refine a bit....still haven't picked mine...perhaps procrastination is apt. lol

Debra..."Simplify" is a great one... I could use a lot of that too! Thanks for your kind comment about "Starlight Starbright". I did a lot of these small paintings of winter trees for the local art center's holiday market... I have a lot left. LOL

Hi Lauren, I like your overlapping trees; very festive and winter-y. Your list had me thinking all day. I like mindfulness and courage (in the broadest sense). I thought of "grace", sort of the centered, meditative thoughtful type of grace. Any of them would be good.

Peggy... grace is a good one too... I'm still pondering... leaning toward "pure" I think... might have a monthly word to strive for along with my yearly word... cuz I really need "organize" to be a theme at some point. (my life-long challenge)

Hi Lauren,

I like your card and your concept for 2009. I'm thinking "keep-your-mouth-shut" would be a fine one for me
